just diagnosed at age 3

Post a new topicby damienzluv on Sat Sep 13, 2008 11:36 am

My son was just diagnosed with what the doctor is calling a mild form of CP...Living in a very small town, there's not a lot of support in our community as far as anyone to talk to or even places to get information...With my son's other medical problems I'm feeling very isolated and I'm just looking for anyone that can maybe help me find information or just share concerns with...As an infant my son had problems with coordinating movements...He went through 6 months of in home physical therapy and was released...At that point in time the doctors said his coordination problem was likely due to pectus excavatum which he inherited from his dad...He seemed to improve with the therapy and began crawling and walking (though it was a bit late)...Since then he has had constant problems with falling, and simple tasks such as feeding himself and even holding a crayon...We have made several trips to the emergency room after his more significant falls that have left him with concussions and even broken facial bones...Now he has begun having "staring" seizures...I'm trying to find out if the seizures are related to the CP...I've never seen anything like them before...He doesn't have the spastic movements that I had always associated with seizures ..He just stares off into nowhere and nothing affects him while he's having one...I'm not even sure how I should go about explaining his condition to his 6 year old sister...She keeps asking what's wrong with her brother, but she suffers from anxiety disorder and I'm afraid she will treat him completely different if she knows what's wrong...I'm trying to give them both as normal a life as I can...Can anyone help? I'm open to any suggestions

My son is also 3 and was just diagnosed himself. I am also from a small town where it seems help is so far away. The doctor has told us that he has CP and that could lead to seizures. They ran alot of teat on him and said while sleeping he is haveing seizure activity. We are waiting to go see a specialist. Do you know why this may be going on? My son was born at 24 weeks and this is what all the doctors think is the cause for it all. I guess I cant give you much info on anything but know you are not alone in this. I know how you feel. Best of luck

I can honestly say I have no idea what causes it...We have learned from my son's dad that he was diagnosed with mild cp when he was 5...In my son's case I guess maybe it could be genetic...But there's always the chance that maybe all his concussions have had something to do with it as well...Honestly have no clue...About all the doctors round here have told me is to not really worry bout it since its mild...Not to be concerned unless he has more than one seizure a week...Easy for them to say as doctors, but not so easy to do as a mom...I wish u the best of luck and hope you are able to find answers
