Ankle Injury

Post a new topicby dorothy07 on Fri Jul 18, 2008 2:29 pm

I fell down a pot hole last Sat attended the hospital had xray and the doc diagnosed after xrays a 'sprained ankle' six days later the swelling around my ankle is somewhat deteriorating, the doc says all I can do is rest, apply ice and take regular painkillers, have had no ankle support as doc said it would make swelling worse, no crutches as he said if I rest as he recommends won't need them, the swelling is now creeping up my leg on the outside and that tendon is really painful, going back to hospital tomorrow of it doesn't improve, has any one else had this sort of reaction or am I being over concerned

Hey
I am so sorry for your discomfort, but I understand. Go back to the doctor. I went to quick care with my ankle, he just looked at it and said tendonitis and sent me on my way. I have had enough broken bones I knew better. I went to my family doctor and he did xrays but did not see anything. I finally got in to see my ortho and he did more xrays and found the break. I have been trying to heal for 8 months now. I strongly suggest getting to a specialist. It sounds like a bad tear and it needs to be treated properly. Yes rest will help, but how likely is it that you will not get up and walk at all - not going to happen right. You probably do need crutches and some type of stability no matter what. I am not a doctor by any means, just a very experienced person - many breaks, torn ligaments in my ankle and knee, which I had surgery on at 15. So from my experience, if you feel like you need to see a doctor then go - trust your instincts!
