BPHI was just diagnosed with BPH I had no symptoms until a renal scan was done to check on possible problems causing high blood pressure which meds were not properly controlling. I have substantial
urine retention - when self catherization was taught / used, there was an unbelievable emptying of more than 2 liters. I chose to continue with self catherization several times daily, and was given a prescription for Uroxatral. The doctor feels this has been a lengthy process since I had no problems urinating, no pain or discomfort, no getting up at night, etc., etc. QUESTION : Should I go the route of continuing self catherizing, etc., or just opt to have surgery and get this all corrected? I am 62 years old in reasonably good health, very active.
Sponsored LinksRe: BPHI'm wondering if your urologist tried the usual Flomax, etc. type drugs to help you with the BPH. I myself could not go through self-catheterization several times a day, but each of us is different as you know. I do know that if your urine backs up and stays in the bladder, you risk of urinary tract infection is greatly increased and then you are in trouble. A UTI on top of BPH for me several weeks ago sent me to the emergency room. I don't want to go through that again. You might want to discuss all your options further with your doctor and see what he is thinking. Urologists tend to put off resection of the prostate until it's absolutely necessary for a variety of reasons. I just had it done three days ago, and just posted today for the first time here. I wish I could offer more to help you.
