Huge BPH with Multiple large bladder calculiI'm a practicing Physician in Indore (MP), India. Recently a patient,85 years old male from rural area, visited my clinic for lower urinary tract symptoms off & on since last 5 years. There is history of recurrent retention of urine which required indwelling catheterisation for 3 to 4 days once or twice a month. He gives h/o 2-3 episodes of haematuria in last 6 months There is no h/o hypertension, diabetes or ischaemic heart disease His investigations revealed normal KFT ( s.cretinine-0.9;BUN - 07 mg/dl); normal urine report(except 1-2 WBC & EC); normal Haemogram. USG revealed multiple large (15-20 mm) calculi in bladder cavity , grossly thickened bladder mucosa and a hugely enlarged prostate weighing around 380 gms. PVRU around 45 ml. Total PSA found 17.60 ng/ml (free-4.08 / % free PSA - 23.18 ).
Urosurgeon opined for open prostatectomy and calculi removal (planned in near future) Is this a world record of prostate size. Can anybody guess. Any suggestion for treatment plan.
Sponsored LinksRe: Huge BPH with Multiple large bladder calculiI am not a doctor, but I have read that the largest prostate on record was 1048 grams. Please do ask where I read that, but it may have been in the book titled " Prostate " published by the Peoples Medical Society, Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA.
