Should I have TURP ?I m 59 I years old and due to have TURP on the 1st of Dec. I am already regretting aggreing to this treatment , quite frankly the thought of retrograde ejaculation is puting me off, Ok I know I do have an enlarged prostate had all the tests but the only "treatment" I have tried is a 3 month course of HYTRIN prescribed by my Doctor. He referred me to an eminent Urologist who appears to be well respected. however My "Symtoms" do not seem to me to be as severe as other people who have had TURP. I never get up in the night to urinate don't have blood in may urine no pain when passing water no kidney stones I do however have a reduced flow rate and had 1 incident after spending approximately 12 hours drinking alcohol at a family wedding. I found it very difficult to urinate and in fact had to stay up all night to empty my bladder in very small amounts, this happened about 5 months ago and has not been repeated. and I have since found out that "Beer" aggrevate's the prostate. It was quite painfull and the Urologist reckons I was lucky and next time will probably have a total shutdown and not be able to pass water at all . He also reckons it's too late to try Saw Palmetto or other Herbal remedies and has not suggested any other treatment and strongly advises TURP. So guys any advice?

If I were you, I think at this stage, with all your concerns, you should get another opinion before you commit to the surgery. What can it hurt? I myself went through years of Flomax and recently other drugs to try to improve the BPH. Eventually, it got so bad my own urologist said I was out of options drug-wise. So, I know it's a case-by-case thing, but you need to have a doctor who is confident that you are ready for this surgery, so you feel 100% about it. I will keep posting to update my progress which is pretty good for how long it's been since the procedure. Hope this helps you out.

Firstly, many thanks for taking the time to reply to my post. And yes it has helped. As you obviously guessed I was not happy with my Urologists advice so have been back to see my Doctor and he advised .... to wait a couple of months then see another Urologist. I feel much happier, not just because I have cancelled the procedure, because I now realise that eventually Turp or similar will be inevitable, but now at least I can prepare myself and hopefully look at the plus side ie less trips to the bathroom. Please keep posting your recovery, and what all us guys really want to know is ofcourse What difference does retrograde ejaculation make. Good luck for the future.
