Shadowing on breast sonogram

Post a new topicby karnold on Mon Aug 04, 2008 4:10 pm

I am 32yo and about 5 weeks ago noticed that I had some discharge out of my left breast. This had happened once before, a year and a half after my daughter was born. I went to the dr and they did an ultrasound and found nothing. The discharge cleared up on its own. This time I waited 4 weeks to see if the discharge would go away on its own and it did not. I had a mamm and a u/s a few days ago. When they were doing the mamm I saw a large white spot just behind the nipple. I asked the tech if she had any idea what it was and she said although what she said didn't count, it looked to be a cyst of some sort. When the dr started the u/s the first thing she said was "well, it's not a cyst". She thinks it is probably a papilloma or a fibroadenoma. I'm supposed to be scheduled for a core biopsy in the next 2 weeks. The radial measurement of the mass is 1.93cm and the anti-radial is 1.47cm. The mass is composed of tissues of different densities (it is not all the same color) and no apparent calcifications. There are 2 ducts that are dialated that are anterior to the mass. They also seem to lead up to the mass, but the mass doesn't appear to be within either one of them. There is also a bit of shadowing underneath the mass in each view. Does this shadowing mean anything? Are there papillomas that occur outside of a duct? I can't find much information on benign breast masses and I would just like to know more.

Thanks.
