Hodgkin’s Lymphoma - That which does not kill me, makes me stronger.

Post a new topicby livingwith on Wed Aug 06, 2008 5:02 pm

Lets just say it, Cancer sucks. I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma stage 4b NS at the age of 28. I was told there was not a lot of hope, but they would try their best. I don’t think there was a time in my life I had been more frightened or afraid. But i kept my faith in God and my family that we would get through this. I received 9 cycles of ABVD chemotherapy and a healthy dose of radiation. To everyone’s surprise, The cancer went into remission.

I sat here in tears as I read your post. My younger Brother (age 36), has been battling Hodgkin's Lymphoma, stage 4B for 4 years now. He has had chemotherapy, radiation and also a stem cell transplant at MD Anderson in Houston (I was his stem cell donor). He has relapsed each time. Now his lung keep filling up with fluid and Monday he will have to have surgery to close the leak. He has cancer in his lung now I believe, his lower back, hips and lymph nodes in his neck. Anyway, I just got off the phone with him and he was so down....feeling like there are no options left for him. It made me cry, as he is feeling so bad right now, he is so thin and weak. He has such a determination and never gives up....fighting to stay alive for his 3 girls (ages 7, 8 & 10). As tired as he is all of the time he still uses all he as to be their soccer coach and refuses to miss a game. He does get around, but the last few days he has been in extreme pain since he cannot take any IBU profin with the upcoming surgery. His wife has been trying to run a beading/jewelry store to make ends meet and the financial stressors are overwhelming.

Anyway, after getting off the phone with him I cried for a bit and then I decided to get on the computer and research. I came accross this posting and cried all the way through. What a strong & determined person you are and I am so happy you survived all that you went through. I would really like to get the name of the doctor you had at Memorial-Sloan Kettering in NY. I saw some clinical trials posted there and wondered which my brother might qualify for. He will have to look at them himself I think. I just want to find something new, something that will give him hope. I am not giving up on him and I know if he had a plan of action he would give 150% and then some. Seems like his local cancer doctors are not sure what else they can do other than chemo. The are dumfounded by his case. He does not want to die and so much needs the support and encouragement of others. I wish you could reach out to him and give him hope. Your story is amazing and truly a miracle. He so much needs to hear a good outcome, as so many around him are dying from cancer. I pray that there is a doctor out there that might read this and reach out to him...someone who is an expert in this that can help him.

I don't believe I can post my e-mail or phone number on here...not sure. I would really love for you to reach out and encourage my brother though.

You are an inspiration....thank you and God Bless you!
